Growing Microgreens Film

Summary of the digital activity:

In this project a group of year 4 children used a digital platform to show their own ‘field’ to fork process within school. The children used Ipad software to create their own video about the microgreens they were growing in school.

The children planned out the different aspects of the filming through storyboarding, taking ownership of their video. They filmed content to demonstrate how they cared for the microgreens, harvested them and how they were used within school in the kitchen and on the salad bar. They divided up clear roles e.g.  director, editor, presenting. The children then worked competently as a team to complete a video that was clear and concise, to be understood by a younger audience within school and the wider community. Once completed this was then broadcast to the younger year groups within school and uploaded to Washingborough Academy’s ‘Food channel’ online to share with the wider community.

What are the benefits/outcomes of a digital approach to this activity?

  • Reach a wider audience about food projects going on in school
  • An audience can watch it at a time suitable for them
  • Flexible to work around a busy timetable
  • dditional skills that children can learn; teamwork, digital competence

Top Teacher Tips:

  • Have a clear target audience
  • Research and story boarding to help plan approach
